The MacBook Air was introduced in January 2008 as a premium ultraportable with a 13.3-inch screen and a full-size keyboard, and was promoted as the world's thinnest notebook, opening a laptop category known as the ultrabook family. With its slim design, it attracted attention for not including an optical disc drive, and having fewer ports than was typical for laptops at the time.
Macbook Air 13.3
On October 20, 2010, Apple released a redesigned 13.3-inch model with a tapered enclosure, higher screen resolution, improved battery, a second USB port, stereo speakers, and standard solid state storage. An 11.6-inch model was introduced, offering reduced cost, weight, battery life, and performance relative to the 13.3-inch model, but better performance than typical netbooks of the time. Both 11-inch and 13-inch models had an analog audio output/headphone minijack supporting Apple earbuds with a microphone. The 13-inch model received a SDXC-capable SD Card slot.[21][22][23][24][10]
On October 30, 2018, Apple released a new MacBook Air with Amber Lake processors, a 13.3-inch Retina display with a resolution of 25601600 pixels, Touch ID, and two combination USB-C 3.1 gen 2/Thunderbolt 3 ports plus one audio jack. The screen displays 48% more color and the bezels are 50% narrower than the previous generation, and occupies 17% less volume. Thickness was reduced to 15.6 mm (0.61 in) and weight to 1.25 kilograms (2.76 pounds). It was available in three finishes, silver, space gray, and gold. Unlike the previous generation, this model couldn't be configured with an Intel Core i7 processor, possibly because Intel never released the i7-8510Y CPU that would have been used.
If you're coming from an older Air or 13-inch MacBook Pro, you'll likely most appreciate the new display. Sort of. It's still an LCD panel stuck at 60 Hz, but Apple has bumped the brightness a smidge, and I had zero trouble reading the screen when I worked outside in my backyard. The screen size also goes from 13.3 to 13.6 inches, thanks to slimmer borders around the display. It sounds like a small boost, but I noticed (and appreciated) the larger real estate. Annoyingly, this MacBook can still only connect to one external monitor (a limitation on the M1 MacBook Air as well). Not great if you want to reap the benefits of a multiscreen setup.
I purchased this case: =oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&ps c=1 only after to realize my Macbook was a 13.3" will this case still fit on my macbook? I also did the same for my boyfriends Pro. Please help! ?
Apple currently sells two laptop lines: the MacBook Pro (which comes in 13-inch M2, 14-inch M2 Pro/Max and 16-inch M2 Pro/Max models) and the MacBook Air (which is available in 13.3-inch M1 or 13.6-inch M2 models). That is a lot of Mac laptops with very different specs.
Within that line up are a collection of similarly speced 13-inch Mac laptops that are designed for home, student, and office use. These include the 13.6-inch MacBook Air and the 13-inch MacBook Pro, which both feature the M2 chip and went on sale in July 2022, and an older M1-equipped 13.3-inch MacBook Air model launched in 2020. The 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models are better suited to pro users.
Due in part to the fact that the 2022 MacBook Air screen is slightly taller, with a diagonal measurement of 13.6 inches rather than 13.3 inches, the MacBook Air display now offers slightly more pixels:
There are no external design changes to the MacBook Pro and it continues to feature the same aluminum body with large Force Touch trackpad, speakers at the side of the keyboard, and 13.3-inch display with slim black bezels. The MacBook Pro comes in Silver and Space Gray color options.
Both laptops offer similar all-metal chassis, which are a Mac hallmark. But the MacBook Air, despite being slightly cheaper and smaller than the Pro, actually has a slightly larger screen. Its 13.6-inch display measures 2,560 by 1,664 pixels, compared with the smaller 13.3-inch screen of the MacBook Pro. Both offer the same level of coverage of the P3 color gamut and support for True Tone automatic white-balance adjustments, and both have 500-nit maximum brightness ratings.
Opening up the two, you have similar but different displays. The Air's screen is larger at 13.6 inches than the Pro's 13.3 inches, with the Air being slightly taller. That also comes across in the resolution of 2,560 by 1,664 pixels for the Air and 2,560 by 1,600 for the Pro.
